After upending Armed Forces squad Navy FC 6-0 in their opening fixture, Stallion Giligan's FC continued it's run on top of the table after they dispatched defending champions Air Force Phoenix 4-1 in the United Football League last night.
This was Air Force's second straight defeat after they were defeated by Kaya FC 1-0 in the opening weekend of the UFL.
Stallion were off to a great start as Lee Joo Young opened the scoring in the 9th minute after Air Force goalkeeper Edmundo Mercado failed to react on the bounce of the ball after Young made his shot.
Stallion almost doubled the lead following the first goal after Mercado again committed two errors, fortunately both attempts ended in a goal kick in favor of the champions.
The continous pressure of Stallion in the attacking third of Air Force proved to be a problem for the Airmen as each Air Force wave was easily cleared by the Stallion defense.
Once again in the 26th minute, Stallion doubled their lead as skipper Ruben Doctora Jr. was able to pick up the ball in the midfield, attacking towards the penalty box and straight into Mercado's net to make it 2-0.
It was a nightmare in the making for the champions as once again Stallion extended their lead to three goals in the 41st minute. A through ball from Doctora found Young rushing towards the goal to pound it for Stallion to end the half 3-0 up against the champions.
Edzel Bracamonte's side made changes in the second half as striker Ian Araneta was replaced by Reymark Palmes fearing Araneta received a knock in the groin during the first half, forcing Caligdong to move up front partnering skipper Yanti Barsales.
Needing to get back on the game, Caligdong received a pass from the right flank, running through on goal, and saw the unmarked Yanti Barsales to reduce the defecit in the 70th minute.
But it was Stallion's win as Doctora once again made a breakaway to give Stallion the 4-1 victory over Air Force.
