Some Interesting Stuff About Kuwait Ahead Of Qualifier

In anticipation of the second round matchup between the Philippines and Kuwait, here are some information regarding the Middle East powerhouse.

  1. Kuwait reached the FIFA World Cup once in 1982.
  2. Two years before that, Kuwait won their first Asian Championship beating Korea Republic in the final 3-0 when they hosted the competition in 1980.
  3. Kuwait qualified for the latest Asian Cup for the 9th time in 2011 but unfortunately ended in the bottom of the group failing to gain a single point and with a -6 goal difference.
  4. Kuwait registered the second highest victory in international football history when they beat Bhutan 20-0 in 2000. It was at the time the biggest ever win in international football before Australia broke the record winning 22-0 two years later.
  5. Kuwait last played a competitive match against a South East Asian nation in 2010 when they beat Vietnam 3-1.
  6. In 2003, Kuwait beat Singapore 4 goals (without reply).
  7. They also beat Malaysia twice 2-0 and 6-1 in 2004
  8. Only two of Kuwait’s World Cup Qualifier squad plays abroad. The rest play their football in the country's premier league. Those two also play in the Middle East.
  9. Kuwait is currently ranked 102 in the FIFA ranking, 57 spots above the Philippines.
  10. The Philippines and Kuwait have never met in any competitive NT match.
